Four of Cups

The Four of Cups is a card often associated with introspection, contemplation, and emotional reevaluation.
Upright Meaning
Contemplation and Reevaluation: A period of introspection and reconsideration of one's emotional state or current circumstances.
Discontent and Boredom: Feelings of dissatisfaction with what is currently being offered or with the status quo.
Missed Opportunities: Potential to overlook new opportunities or offers due to preoccupation with current concerns or a lack of awareness.
Emotional Withdrawal: Choosing to withdraw emotionally to reflect on personal desires and needs.
Reversed Meaning
Renewed Awareness: Becoming more open to opportunities and experiences that were previously ignored or overlooked.
End of Apathy: Moving out of a period of stagnation and finding renewed motivation and interest.
Acceptance: Recognizing and accepting what is being offered, leading to a more positive outlook.
Action: A call to take action and engage with the opportunities presented, rather than remaining in a state of contemplation.
Symbolism
The traditional depiction of the Four of Cups typically includes a seated figure, often shown sitting under a tree, appearing deep in thought or somewhat discontented. Three cups are placed on the ground in front of the figure, while a fourth cup is being offered by a hand emerging from a cloud. The figure’s body language often suggests a lack of interest or disengagement from the cups in front of them.
